Zu einer RoboGauge-Zelle gehört ein robuster Maschinentisch, auf dem sowohl der Messroboter als auch die Bauteil-Aufnahme angebracht sind. An der Lichtfarbe seiner durchscheinenden Seitenwände ist der aktuelle System-Status auf einen Blick zu erkennen. Die unmittelbare Umgebung der RoboGauge-Zelle wird von Infrarot-Scannern überwacht, die eine mehrdimensionale, programmierbare Sicherheitszone gegen Betreten erzeugen.

PERCEPTRON’S COORD3 METROLOGY EQUIPS CONTRACT MEASUREMENT COMPANY WITH WIDE ARRAY OF CMM DIMENSIONAL MEASURING CAPABILITY

Two different types of Coord3 CMM machines with TouchDMIS™ software provide the needed capability for dimensional measuring of automotive, aerospace, appliance and power generation parts.

When Robert Howard formed Carolina Metrology in Duncan, South Carolina, he knew the level of core measuring capability that was required to compete as a contract dimensional measurement service. Mr. Howard has spent over fifteen years in the metrology, quality and measurement areas managing a number of inspection shops.

“The key to success in contract measuring is to be able to program fast, and have equipment that can run parts with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability,” says Mr. Howard. “When you can provide high-quality dimensional service at a competitive value, understand the inherent degrees of accuracy of the different types of equipment, and supply the scheduling and timing required to meet the customer’s requirements, you have mastered the fundamentals of CMM measuring.”

“When I decided to start Carolina Metrology,” Mr. Howard points out, “I looked for a CMM equipment supplier that could quickly deliver a complete solution and provide the service required to get my new company up and running quickly. For a variety of reasons, Coord3 was the supplier we selected. With Coord3 we were able to get the best of both worlds. We had access to a complete range of high-quality new Coord3 measuring centers and direct access to TouchDMIS software with its intuitive touch interface, offering innovative and time saving features. The traditional CMM software programs that we had prior experience with provided access to functionalities through a complex system of toolbars, dropdown menus and tedious window selections. TouchDMIS gave us a truly revolutionary user interface using smart technology with full CAD capability, minimizing learning time to just a few hours with immediate productivity benefits.”

Elliott Mills, CMM product and sales director for Perceptron, says, “Carolina Metrology presented a unique opportunity for us. Because Robert Howard is so experienced with metrology systems, CMMs and the nuances of the available software, it was very easy to sit down and evaluate the level of business that he was going to pursue with respect to his equipment and software needs. Ultimately we provided two different types of Coord3 CMMs. A Coord3 Hera 10.7.7 model with a Renishaw PH20 probe and a Coord3 Hera 15.10. 9 with a Renishaw PH10MQ for large part inspection and tactile and laser scanning.”

The COORD3 HERA CMMs are a series of small and medium measuring volume bridge DCC CMM’s that offer advanced performance measuring platforms with integral dovetail X axis machined directly into the granite plate providing the ultimate in stable metrology performance. The HERA CMMs can be equipped with Renishaw touch or scanning probes and are suitable for all applicable manufacturing measuring applications. The Hera Model 10.7.7 has a measuring range of 1000mm x 700mm x 700mm. The 10.15.9 Model has a measuring range of 1500mm x 1000mm x 900mm.

Robert Howard adds, “It’s really the CMM software that gives a measuring service like ours the ability to react quickly, but interestingly, we had been using three other different software versions. The Hera machines allowed us to continue to use those other softwares until we familiarized ourselves with the new TouchDMIS…which was a real benefit to us. As you can imagine, after spending over fifteen years in the area of metrology, I have worked with just about every type of software, and they are always being enhanced and improved. We now prefer our TouchDMIS because it takes the guess work out of CMM programming by seamlessly integrating CAD data with the CMM programming and measurement process providing us with a high level of power, precision and productivity at the single click of the mouse.”

Howard concludes, “Coord3 became a real partner in helping us establish our company. We were particularly impressed with their overall knowledge, attention to detail and understanding of our customers’ needs and expectations. Today, our core services include broad measurement services for production and prototype parts for automotive OEMs, aerospace companies, appliance manufacturers, and power generation manufacturers. Helix®-Smart-Scansensoren arbeiten mit MEMS-Technologie (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) und eröffnen neue Möglichkeiten für die vollautomatische Maßprüfung in der Produktion bei engen Zykluszeitvorgaben

Mit einer neuen Sensor-Version mit erhöhter Laserleistung, die einen größeren Dynamikbereich bietet, erweitert Perceptron die Bandbreite der Einsatzmöglichkeiten für Helix-Smart-Scansensoren. Bei dem neuen Sensor Helix 2000HDR lässt sich die Laserleistung bis zu dem für die Laserklasse 3R maximal zulässigen Wert einstellen.

Die höhere Laserleistung ermöglicht technisch komplexere Messapplikationen, zu denen auch die Messung auf hoch reflektierenden Metall-Oberflächen gehört – wie etwa auf bearbeiteten Aluminiumgussteilen. Der HELIX 200HDR erzeugt eine dünnere Laserlinie und bietet eine höhere Messauflösung. Damit eignet er sich beispielsweise perfekt für die Prüfung komplexer, maschinell bearbeiteter Komponenten und Zusammenbauten in der Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie.

Die patentierte HELIX-Smart-Scantechnologie wird heute in zahlreichen Produktions­werken der Automobilindustrie weltweit eingesetzt, um Fahrzeug-Karosserien im laufenden Fertigungsprozess auf Maßhaltigkeit sowie auf Spalt- und Bündigkeits­anforderungen zu überwachen.

Die auf MEMS-Projektionstechnologie basierenden HELIX-Sensoren sind die weltweit ersten Laserscanner, bei denen die Anzahl und Dichte der Laserlinien sowie das Scanvolumen bedienerkonfigurierbar sind. Auf diese Weise muss der Laserscanner selbst nicht über das Bauteil geführt werden, was sich positiv auf die Messunsicherheit und Wiederholgenauigkeit der Ergebnisse auswirkt.

Die gesamte Scanbewegung läuft innerhalb des Helix-Smart-Scansensors selbst ab. Hierdurch wird die Qualität und Genauigkeit der Scandaten erheblich verbessert und die Erfassung mehrerer Bauteilmerkmale von einer Sensorposition aus ermöglicht. Der Helix-Sensor verfügt über einen integrierten Beschleunigungsmesser zur Echtzeit-Bestimmung der Sensorausrichtung und wurde speziell für anspruchsvolle Messroboter-Applikationen entwickelt, bei denen der Roboter den Sensor in diskrete Messpositionen bringt, von denen aus der Helix-Sensor alle erforderlichen Messdaten erfassen kann.

Mittels Echtzeit-Streaming wird der Helix-Scandatensatz an einen Industrie-Controller-PC übertragen, wo die Perceptron-eigene Software­plattform Vector® automatisch die Bauteil-Merkmale aus der erzeugten Punktewolke extrahiert und analysiert.

AutoScan – das ist vollautomatische Messtechnik für die industrielle Fertigung, die moderne kollaborative Roboter und die innovative Helix-Smart-Sensortechnologie von Perceptron zu einer leistungsfähigen Lösung für 3D-Scanning, Maßprüfung und Maßhaltigkeitskontrolle verbindet

Ein kollaborativer Roboter ermöglicht durch spezielle Gestaltungsmerkmale eine direkte Interaktion mit einem Werker in der Produktion innerhalb eines gemeinsamen Arbeitsbereichs, damit beide mehrere Fertigungsaufgaben gleichzeitig ausführen können. Die für Industrieroboter übliche aufwändige Sicherheitstechnik (Einzäunung des Roboters) ist bei kollaborativen Robotern nicht erforderlich.

Die AutoScan-“Self-Teach”-Fähigkeit für die Roboterprogrammierung ermöglicht eine schnelle Konfigurierung ohne Offline-Software-Tools: Zum Teachen einer Roboterposition genügt es, diesen von Hand an die nächste erforderliche Bauteil-Scanposition zu führen. Alle Roboterbewegungen werden automatisch in das Bauteil-Prüfprogramm übernommen, so dass alle folgenden Bauteile anschließend ohne Bedienereingriff gemessen werden können. AutoScan liefert ein digitales 3D-Abbild des Bauteils und gibt Datenberichte über komplexe Form- und Oberflächenabweichungen vom CAD-Modell sowie diskrete Informationen zu kritischen Merkmalen wie Löchern, Langlöchern und Bolzen aus.

AutoScan setzt die patentierte Helix-Smart-Scantechnologie von Perceptron ein, die bereits in zahlreichen Produktionswerken der Automobilindustrie weltweit im Einsatz ist, um Fahrzeug-Karosserien im laufenden Fertigungsprozess auf Maßhaltigkeit und Spaltgüte zu überwachen. Die auf MEMS-Projektionstechnologie basierenden Helix-Sensoren sind die weltweit ersten Laserscanner, bei denen die Anzahl und Dichte der Laserlinien sowie das Scanvolumen bedienerkonfigurierbar sind, so dass der Laserscanner bei den meisten Messaufgaben nicht über das Bauteil geführt werden muss.

Die gesamte Bauteil-Scanbewegung läuft innerhalb des Helix-Smart-Scansensors selbst ab, wodurch sich die Zykluszeiten und die Qualität der Scandaten erheblich verbessern. Bis zu 200 Scanlinien können pro Messmerkmal eingestellt werden; das Merkmal wird automatisch aus dem erzeugten Punktewolken-Datensatz extrahiert. Auf diese Weise lassen sich gleich mehrere Bauteil-Merkmale von einer Roboterposition aus messen. Dank der konfigurierbaren Liniendichte des Helix-Sensors sind Scanlinien-Abstände von nur 0,1 mm möglich. Die Programmierbarkeit des Scanvolumens ermöglicht in Kombination mit der Einstellbarkeit der erforderlichen Anzahl und Dichte der Laserlinien für konkrete interessierende Bereiche auf detailreichen, komplexen Bauteilen eine echte Optimierung des Scanvorgangs.

Die im AutoScan-Lieferumfang standardmäßig enthaltene, in der Fertigung bewährte Softwareplattform Vector übernimmt die Datenanalyse und Berichtsausgabe. Vector wird in zahlreichen führenden Automobilwerken weltweit einsetzt, um die Produktionsqualität zu überwachen, und kann auch zur schnellen Erkennung von Prozessanomalien konfiguriert werden.

Perceptron Completes Acquisition of Coord3, an Italy-based CMM Designer and Manufacturer

Plymouth, MI, February 27, 2015 — Perceptron Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP), announced that it has completed the acquisition of the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) business of Coord3 Industries s.r.l..

–    Coord3® Industries s.r.l., a leading mid-market designer and manufacturer of a full range of high-quality and high-performance Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM), based in Turin, Italy.
–    Next Metrology Software s.r.o., a technical leader in CMM operating software and the developer of TouchDMIS™, based in Prague, Czech Republic.

The NMS acquisition closed on January 29. The Coord3 acquisition is expected to close in February 2015, subject to customary closing conditions. The total value of the transactions will be approximately $15.9 million, in a combination of cash and assumed debt. The combined companies have approximately $15 million in annual revenue. Management expects the transactions will be accretive by the end of fiscal 2016.

The industry-leading solutions of Perceptron’s current In-Line Measurement business addresses only about 10 percent of the automotive metrology market.”

Angelo Muscarella, the president of Coord3 Industries, will continue as managing director of Perceptron’s CMM business, which will be operated under the Coord3 name through wholly owned subsidiaries of Perceptron.  Muscarella also will serve as Perceptron’s country manager for Italy.

The Company will acquire the business of Coord3 for cash on hand of approximately $2.0 million, a deferred payment of approximately $350,000, payable in 18 months, and assumed debt estimated at approximately $10.7 million.  The Company acquired all of the share capital of NMS for cash on hand of approximately $2.6 million and deferred payments of approximately $230,000, payable over the next year. The purchase agreements for both acquisitions are denominated in Euros. The above U.S. Dollar amounts assume a conversion rate of 1.17 USD per Euro.

PREMIUM GERMAN AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURER CHOOSES HELIX (Sept 16, 2014)

PLYMOUTH, MI–(Sep 16, 2014) – Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP), a leading global provider of real time, non-contact 3D measurement, inspection, and automation solutions, announced that, starting in March 2014, it expects to begin shipping 45 inline gauging systems to a premium German automotive manufacturer. This project represents the largest single location deployment to date of Helix®, Perceptron’s revolutionary real time 3D scanning technology. Perceptron’s systems will be strategically distributed throughout the production plant to automatically measure, record, and provide real time feedback on key dimensional aspects of the vehicle during the entire manufacturing process.
